Zoe continued her life at the clinic, praying that the change would bring about a normal peaceful life. She found herself prevailed upon by those she trusted, to help destroy the enemies of the HuMEM Society. Manipulative forces worked together to make her believe she had an obligation to repay. Worried that her new life would be taken from her, she became a protector of the Society and the secret, which ignited the nightmares of her past.
Endeavoring to submerse herself in Society life and after a botched but successful first kill, Zoe spent six years learning how to proficiently wield a sword and master firearms. Angel of Death, a moniker that followed her after that harrowing first episode, sat heavily upon her conscience. The peaceful life she dreamed of-- gone one kill after another.
One such incident, brought into her life her new love interest, the brother of the next man she was sent to destroy. Lonnie Evans found himself the recipient of the gift of an immortal life, requested payment and at the behest of the man who built a secret lab for Dr. Rushing. That man held the secret of the Society hostage, asking for immortal lives for his mistresses. Zoe decided he needed to be eliminated. No one blackmailed the Society and lived.
Staking out the house of his favorite mistress, she discovered he had arranged to have her killed. Enter an abandoned tube station and a nefarious plot to blow her up. Zoe developed a strategy to kill him first. Her plan worked, until a train barreled down the tracks of the tube station. Not enough time to escape to the lower level, she almost arrived at a deadly end. Lonnie transported her broken body back to the clinic, where a new nanite pod repaired her. While recovering, she and Lonnie fell in love and got married. Everything seemed perfect, except for Opal, a past clinic friend and Robert McCaster's new bride. An old hurt and jealousy sent her trailing after them and threw Zoe into a tizzy.
Determined to find her lost love, she set forth to discover why Robert left her at the clinic and made his way into the world without her. Old feelings of anger and rejection sent Zoe on a destructive path of vandalism and revenge. With the help of Lonnie who loved her unconditionally, she endeavored to let go of the past and grasped hold of the present. Zoe charged herself with the task of protecting Opal from those who want to kill her. Together with other huMEMs, they destroyed all evidence of their existence at the clinic and hid in a bunker in the North wilds of Scotland.
A revelation of the future and a realization that she was worthy to be a part of something bigger than herself, gave her the security she needed to move forward and leave the past where it was no longer of consequence. Despite all the secrets that kept revealing themselves, Zoe couldn't wait for forever.
